Wish We Had Our Time Again....

Right after fiddler Benny Martin passed away John Hartford said to me, "It's like I'm on the battlefield and my closest friends are dropping all around me..."

Boy I know. I lost two musician friends this past week that I was very fond of. Fiddler and Jam Newsletter editor Ed Pollak and Jim Reitnour Singer Guitar player Band Leader of JR Country.

JR gave me some of my first fiddling jobs and I was just getting reacquainted with Ed "Doc" Pollak who kept us all posted on the local Bluegrass and Ole Timey music scene with his regular newsletters and jam list postings. They will both be greatly missed by myself especially...  Onward!

All the more reason to give that other Musician and Friend you know a kind word and a hug!

I try not to complain about the rain too much because I remember a couple of summers around here with Drought conditions and seeing a dump truck full of dead cattle riding down Rt 422 and bouncing up and out of the truck as they hit a section of concrete that had buckled in the intense heat. So we'll try to carry on in spite of these rainy weekends.

The Big Time Birthday Bash

Ted's annual Big Time Birthday Bash started out in 2001 to be a way for Ted to give back to the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, Pa.. Ted would invite musicians from his 45 year career to join in a jam session, sell tickets and give any profit back to the Theatre. After Ted left the theatre in 2011, the show moved to Chaplin's where Ted has been hosting the Sunday Open Mics and monthly Bluegrass Jams. The focus also changed and it became a charity event. Raising Money for the little known charity Performers For Relief (It's a charity, not a laxative) Last year we raised $900 for charity. Giving it away to something Local and trying to eliminate the middle man or put gas in some one's BMW. It's been a great 14 years, but this year the date, Ted's actual Birthday falls on a Friday and most musicians, including Ted have paying gigs and so it is with great regret that we're going to postpone or actually retire the Big Time Birthday Bash this year. We may try to resurrect it some time down the road. We've even talked about doing the show in the Summer Months instead. This time of the year is tough for everyone and it's actually amazing the Bash lasted 14 years being held two days before Christmas. We want to thank every one who's contributed to this project and if you feel so inclined, you can still make a donation to Performers For Relief and send it to Ted's address. It can be found in the Contact area of this web site under About Us. Thanks again for a great 14 years! This year Ted is going to finally get his free meal at Shady Maple!

More stuff going into Fall

Looks like I'll be playing at the Pete's Barn party this weekend opening for The Mighty Manatees and another joining them for another Manatees Tribute next Aug 31 at Rising Sun for Van Morrison's birthday. Plus a new gig or two with Mathew Gordon and Dave Loves Donna in October and our usual Acoustic Manatees Asher's Chocolate Factory Fall Festival where they really give me a lot of tunes to do with them backing me up. Plus! a very special and rare visit from the John Hartford String Band Oct 7th at Godfry Daniel's in Bethlehem! There's no place to go but Onward and Upward!

It's Still Summer!

In spite of how it might feel, seeing Summer Clearance in all the stores already, this heat should remind you it's still Summer! The Bethlehem MusikFest just ended and the amazing Philly Folk Fest kicks off this coming Thursday. Ted will be playing at the East Goshen Farmer's Market with Dave Loves Donna also this Thursday Aug 18 and with the Manatees at a couple of Private things not on the calendar, and a couple that are. It's still a busy lightning fast summer!

Plus the new Western New York Movie Expo and Memorabilia Show is coming up in September. You can read about it Here...
